Festival Week Sees Liquor Sales Surge

Hyderabad: Telangana Government is brewing revenues thanks to the surge in liquor sales during the long Dasara holiday stretch. Adding to this, people, who drink cheap liquor, are migrating to branded alcohol products. Telangana Distilleries observe that majority of people who used to drink cheap liquor are migrating to branded liquor. Hyderabad and Nalgonda districts topped the list of higher liquor sales in the State. The State recorded Rs585 crore worth liquor sales during first 12 days of October. State Excise department said that this was 30 percent higher than the previous corresponding period.

RV Chandravadan, Excise and Prohibition Commissioner, said: "During the Dasara holiday season, the liquor sales rose. We most of the sales were in in premium brands. The migration has increased from lower brands to premium brands. We recorded a 30-per cent growth in sales this year. Bar and pubs in the IT corridor and prime localities have sold more liquor this year. The state is leading liquor sales across the country."

About 1.31 lakh cases of beer and 1.2 lakh cases of Indian Made Liquor (IML) were sold in the first 12 days of the month.

Enforcement wing officials said all bars in the city were under the scanner during Dasara. Because of this which they did not allow underage persons. Although there is a ban on offers like ‘Happy Hours.' a few bars had offered a one peg of liquor free with every two pegs ordered.
