Hyderabad: Veteran actor Devadas Kanakala (74) passed away in Hyderabad on Friday. Devadas Kanakala was the father of actors Rajeev Kanakala and Sri Laxmi, and the father-in-law of TV anchor Suma Kanakala

Devadas Kanakala was ailing for sometime and was undergoing treatment in KIMS hospital where he passed away. Devadas was born in 1945 July 30 in Yanam and had acted in many prominent Telugu films including Gorintaaku, Siri Siri Muvva, Chiranjeevi’sGang Leader, Manchu Pallaki. His last film was Mahesh Babu’’s Bharath Ane Nenu.Devadas also acted in a Telugu serial called Amrutham.

One of the pioneers of method acting he studied in the Pune Film and Television Institute in Pune. He founded an acting school in Hyderabad, India along with his wife Lakshmi Kanakala (also an actress herself) and served as the school's principal and director.

He had trained actors like Chiranjeevi, Rajanikanth, Rajendra Prasad and many actors from the Telugu and Tamil film industry in the Chennai Film institute , before relocating to Hyderabad. He was also a writer and had written many plays in his career spanning more than four decades.

The veteran actor’s mortal remains have been kept in the hospital for the night and will be brought to his Manikonda residence in the morning. The final journey to the cremation ground will commence around 11.30 am after his fans, followers, friends and well-wishers pay their respects.
