Hyderabad: Following the vandalism of the hospital property by the family members of a patient, a doctor from the Safe Children Hospital filed a complaint at the Malakpet police station on Monday.

The doctor, GM Irfan, who works as a consultant pediatric surgeon in his complaint stated that the family of a 45-day-old baby, Abu Hurera had abused him and his colleague Dr Syed Ershad Mustafa.

He informed that the baby was admitted on February 19 in the case of biliary atresia with choledochal cyst (blockage of bile ducts in the liver) following which surgery took place on February 23 with the family being counseled regarding the risks.

Claiming that the hospital management had overcharged them, asking Rs 2 lakh for the operation, the baby’s family members said that the condition of the child worsened after they performed the operation.

The baby’s mother Ishrat Begum said that even though Rs 1.5 lakh had already been paid, upon questioning the child's condition, the doctors behaved in a rude manner further asking them to vacate the premises.

At present, the baby is still admitted in the hospital but is in a stable condition.

Dr Irfan, on the other hand, in his complaint stated that the family members had broken the door glass, slapped a security guard, and had broken a computer monitor in the counseling room.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under Section 4 of the Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (protection from violence and damage to property) Act, 2008 and IPC Sections 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly), 504 (insult), 323 (punishment for causing hurt) r/w 34 (common intent). Further investigation is underway.
