AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy - Sakshi Post

VIAJAYAWADA: Reaffirming the commitment for the uplift of marginalized sections of the society, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the cause for which Jyothirao Phule has worked is the path which his government is following.

After paying tributes to the social reformer on his 129th death anniversary, here on Thursday, the Chief Minister said Jyothirao Phule has worked for gender equality and uplift of downtrodden which his government has been following by providing fees reimbursement besides 50 % quota to SC, ST, BC, Minorities and Women in nominated posts and contract works.

Speaking on the occasion YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that it was first Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy who had taken the step to the empowerment of weaker sections and women and our government is continuing the socio-economic and political uplift with the same spirit of Jyothirao Phule.

‘In the composition of our state cabinet, 60 % of ministers are from the marginalized sections and we have five Deputy Chief Ministers, four of whom are from the weaker sections. In Maharashtra, we are seeing that posts are being distributed as per the strengths of political parties but we have taken in people from SC, STs, BCs, Minorities and Women and our Speaker is from the BC community,’ he said.

During the 3,649 km Praja Sankalpa Yatra, I interacted with all sections of people who had told me about their hardships and concurrent to my Padayatra our Party leaders have met with people of all castes and had come out with their readings which came up as BC Declaration and is reflected in the manifesto which we believe is sacred.

Though Chandrababu Naidu has left empty coffers and an unhealthy economy we did not go back and had kept our word by going ahead with the poll promises without diluting them as our concern is for socio-econo-political uplift of weaker sections.

We have allocated Rs 15,000 crore for BC welfare and have created social justice implementing the 50 % reservation in nominated posts in Market Committee Yards in the strict sense. In Krishna district itself, of the 19 posts, we have reserved 10 posts for the marginalized sections which shows our commitment for social justice and empowerment of weaker sections.

We are taking every step in that direction and despite recession across the country, we have given jobs to 4 lakh youth though Village Secretariats. We have passed a law to provide 75 % of jobs to locals.

In the five to six months of coming to power, we have taken major steps and did not shirk responsibility and went forward with Rythu Bharosa benefiting 46 lakh farmers and for the first time have considered even tenant farmers, which is an unprecedented move.

We have implemented YSR Vahana Mitra for auto and taxi drivers, given the promised aid to fishermen and the pension given by the previous government is just Rs 500 crores while our average pension works out to Rs 1,400 crores.

Towards change, we are marching forward with the Nadu Nedu programme to give a facelift to the government schools and have introduced English medium from primary level despite the opposition from detractors.

Amma Vodi will be launched on January 9. Besides full fees reimbursement, Rs 20,000 will be given to students towards hostel and mess charges. By Ugadi 24 lakh house pattas would be distributed to the poor registering the site on the name of a woman of the household, he said.

Taking to Twitter on the occasion of the social reformer’s 129th death anniversary , YS Jagan said that Jyotirao Phule's struggle for the rights of the underprivileged and the depressed masses will remain etched in history. He devoted his life to the education of women and to remove social inequality in society. Let us move forward inspired by his aspirations of establishing an equal society, he tweeted.
