Visakhapatnam: Five persons including Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, State Municipal Administration Secretary Karikal Valaval, Greater Visakha Corporation Commissioner Harinarayan, and former Rajya Sabha Member Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad have been issued contempt of court notices.

The AP High Court issued notices on Monday in connection to installing statues on Beach Road. On November 30, 2018, statues of MP Harikrishna, actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao and director Dasari Narayana Rao were installed at the Beach Road. Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and MP Yarlagadda unveiled the statues the next day.

A petition was filed in the AP High Court by social activist Bolisetti Satyanarayana. Form one notices were issued by the HC to all the five persons, who were involved in the installation and unveiling of the statues.

Following this, the HC directed the GVMC commissioner to seek an explanation from the ones involved in the installation of the three statues. However, there was no action taken in this regard as the officials were involved in the election process. The court in response has questioned the IAS officers concerned in the case regarding the delay.

Now, all the five individuals have been directed to attend the court proceedings in person else action would be taken according to the contempt of court orders.
