What Did You Do For Kuppam, Chandrababu? : Vijayasai Reddy

Amaravati: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) National Secretary and Rajya Sabha member V Vijayasai Reddy took to the micro blogging site Twitter, to raise awareness about what Telugu Desam Party had done to farmers in his home turf at Kuppam, Chittoor district.

In the name of Israel Model of farming, Chandrababu has brought in foreign corporate into the region and has wrecked havoc in the lives of the farmers there, he said. Condemning this act, Vijayasai Reddy said that the Israeli experiment was an utter flop resulting in crop failure. After which many farmers had migrated to Bengaluru and Chennai searching for work. He said that more than 30, 000 people from Kuppam were working as daily wage labourers and in his 30 years as the Kuppam MLA what had Chandrababu Naidu done for his constituency, he questioned.

The Kuppam project of 1998 was brought in to demonstrate the Israeli model using drip irrigation for local farmers. In Kuppam , Israeli agro-business companies were involved. According to an independent study by Deccan Development society, it heavily criticised this model for being not only unsustainable but also detrimental for the local village economy, and several other experts further condemned this model as “technically unsound, low in agricultural sustainability, environmentally destructive and economically unviable.

In a previous tweet Vijayasai Reddy hinted at divisions within the ruling TDP's first family with Chandrababu asking party cadre to back former CBI official VV Lakshminarayana in Visakhapatnam who is a Jana Sena party candidate. A miffed M Bharat, Balakrishna's younger son-in-law and TDP's Visakhapatnam candidate for the Lok Sabha would work against Nara Lokesh in Mangalagiri, he implied.
