Hyderabad: The YSR Congress party on Monday alleged that Telugu daily — Andhra Jyothy newspaper is resorting to misinformation and is spreading canards in order to dent the image of Leader of the Opposition YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Andhra Jyothy newspaper published a front page article on YS Jagan alleging that his recent visit to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a mere drama.

Speaking to media persons at Lotus Pond in Hyderabad, YSRCP general secretary Bhumana Karunakar Reddy alleged that the vernacular daily acted like a lackey of the ruling TDP by throwing journalistic values and ethics to wind.

"YS Jagan wrote a letter to PM on February 17. Subsequently, the Centre responded to the the opposition leader on April 13. In the memorandum submitted by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, several issues like AgriGold case special status were mentioned. But the Andhra Jyothy is making an attempt to show that the letter was given to Modi on May 10, which is false," Bhumana said.

He further added the YSRCP would lodge a complaint with Press Council of India over the issue and would file a criminal defamation case against the news organisation.

The YSRCP general secretary called upon people, party activists and supporters to boycott ABN Andhra Jyothy channel and Andhra Jyothy newspaper. No reporter from the news organisation would be allowed to attend press meets that will be conducted at the YSRCP headquarters, Bhuman clarified.
