YS Jagan to go on 2-day hunger strike for farmers' rights - Sakshi Post

Demanding an inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into the state repression on farmers in the capital region, YSR Congress has said that the Party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy would sit on a two day fast demanding justice to farmers on various counts.

A delegation led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has met Governor ESL Narasimhan and submitted him a representation detailing the harassment being meted out to farmers who are not willing to part with their lands and sought an inquiry by a sitting High Court Judge, Party leader Dharmana Prasad Rao told reporters after the Raj Bhavan meeting.

“YS Jagan Mohan Reddy would sit on a two-day fast at Tanuku in West Godavari district on January 31 and February 1 protesting against the anti-farmer policies of the TDP government. Besides the lopsided approach of land acquisition, the State has failed in providing MSP to farmers and give proper relief and rehabilitation to Hudhud Cyclone affected farmers.

The two-day dharna will highlight the failures of the State Government in handling farmers’ issues,” he said.

MLAs of Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam districts accompanied YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to Raj Bhavan and gave a representation narrating the trauma of locals who were not willing to part with their land. The statements of Home Minister and other ministers of the district, immediately after the incident of arson that took place in the capital region, blaming YSR Congress is unfair and has unleashed police force on our Party workers and sympathizers.

Being in a responsible position giving such reckless statements without verifying facts  has aggravated the situation and police are using force to name YSRCP leaders as responsible for the arson.

In such a situation, we have no faith in state investigation and demanded an inquiry by a sitting High Court judge.

The Governor gave a patient hearing, Dharmana Prasada Rao said adding that the appointment of affected farmers would be looked after by the Raj Bhavan officials.
