Peaceful Polling, Highlight Of Telangana Elections: CEO

Hyderabad: Dr Rajat Kumar Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Telangana State said the elections for the State Legislative Assembly ended peacefully and no re-polling was required in any polling station.

He said 67 % polling was recorded in the State when reports last came in from the districts, and the final figures will only be available on Saturday.

Rajat Kumar expressed satisfaction over the way the polls were conducted with special arrangements being made within a short span of three months as decided by the Election Commission of India (ECI) following dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly on September 6. Barring a few incidents it was peaceful and remained incident-free even in the 13 extremist affected Assembly constituencies, he added.

Rajat said over 2.50 lakh government as well as police personnel were engaged for election duties and they successfully discharged their responsibilities. He acknowledged that polling began late by an hour in some polling stations and cited technical glitches and human errors as reasons. In all, 754 EVMs and 1,444 VVPATs were replaced across the State.

He announced the seizure of money touched Rs 138 crores and seizures were reported from various districts on polling day too. Now the EVMs will be sent to warehouses which will be guarded by paramilitary security, adding that arrangements were already on for counting of votes on December 11.

The CEO informed that a total of 4,292 complaints were filed on the poll-related incidents and 3,650 of them were resolved as of now. On Kalwakurthy incident, CEO said ordered for a probe and a final report was yet to be submitted.
