Congress, Not KCR Deserves Credit For Telangana State: Azad

Ghulam Nabi Azad - Sakshi Post

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and AICC General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad stated that TRS and Telangana caretaker chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao had no role to play in the formation of Telangana State. It was the Congress and Sonia Gandhi who granted a separate state after elaborate consultations with MLAs, MLCs and MPs from the Congress party of both regions, he clarified.

Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan in the city, Party affairs incharge for Telangana RC Kunthia and TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy among others, he said that he was the general secretary of the party at the time the process of bifurcation was set in motion. It was he who met all leaders dozens of times he said.

He recalled that being in the ruling party MPs from the Congress would stall parliamentary proceedings and that leaders from the Andhra region left the decision to the High Command. Later, however, those very leaders backtracked and blamed the High Command, he said. Azad pointed out that the state of Telangana was created in fulfilment of the wishes of people in Telangana and meet their aspirations. KCR was not involved in the process, he asserted.

The TRS also had no role to play in this, he observed. It was the congress which sowed the seeds of Telangana and ploughed the field as well while TRS harvested the crop, he said. He likened KCR to PM Modi saying that both of them were equally good at stating falsehoods. Both had decieved youth totally, he said.

The Congress leader pointed out that in the undivided state, it was chief minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy who put in place 4% reservations for the Muslim community. He also faulted the Telangana chief minister for not carrying out the fee reimbursement scheme properly and diluting it.
