Hyderabad: Both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are expected to receive moderate to heavy rains in the next 24 hours, Met department predicted on Saturday.

So far, Telangana recorded 16 per cent deficit rainfall while Rayalaseema region registered 15 per cent less rain in the present monsoon.

Speaking to Sakshi, meteorological officer Raja Rao said the monsoon trough is currently oscillating towards north and is expected to start shifting towards the south. This will result in less rainfall in the South and sometimes no rainfall at all in some places.

"The monsoon trough goes till the foot of the Himalayas. When the monsoon trough shifts towards South of India, it brings rains to the southern part of the country," he said.

The Met officials said that a low-pressure zone was formed over Bay of Bengal which would result in rains in another 24 hours time.
