Tamil Nadu Pongal Holidays from tomorrow: Schools Closed From January 14 to 18

The Tamil Nadu government has officially declared Pongal holidays for all schools across the state, granting a break from January 14 to January 18. The decision brings clarity to parents and students, especially in Chennai and its surrounding areas, where several private schools had earlier planned to function on January 14.
Officials from the School Education Department confirmed that the holiday announcement was issued following directions from Chief Minister M K Stalin. The move ensures uniformity in the holiday schedule for government and private educational institutions.
Until the state’s announcement, there was uncertainty among families as some schools had listed January 14 as a regular working day despite Pongal being a major festival in Tamil Nadu. The revised order now aligns school schedules with the festive calendar, allowing students and teachers to fully participate in the celebrations.
The Pongal break will cover the four-day harvest festival period, offering families an opportunity to observe traditional rituals and spend time together. Schools are expected to resume classes after January 18, as per the academic calendar.
