Here's The Cost Of Single Dose of Pfizer Covid Vaccine In India

The government of India is in talks with Pfizer and Moderna for COVID-19 vaccines and they are soon expected to be released in the country. But, these vaccines are not included in the free vaccination drive for beneficiaries above 18 years.

According to the reports, Pfizer vaccine could be available in India as early as July. These vaccines are most likely to be available in private hospitals only. Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines should be stored in temperatures below zero.

US pharmaceutical major Pfizer may price its mRNA-based Covid-19 vaccine, co-developed by BioNTech, about Rs 730, a dose in India. The Pfizer COVID vaccine is priced in the US for $19.5 (Rs 1,423) a dose. In the UK, it costs around $21 (Rs 1,532).

Pfizer spokesperson said that, "Pfizer has offered to make the required doses of our COVID-19 vaccine available at a not-for-profit price for India, as for all low and lower-middle income countries, once we have the necessary regulatory clearance."

The spokespeson further added that, "Currently, as our discussions with the government of India are ongoing and confidential, we cannot provide further details."

In India, the cost of Russian COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V is Rs 995 a dose (inclusive of all taxes). The price of Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin, a Covid-19 vaccine is Rs. 1,200 and of Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield is Rs 600 in the private hospitals.
