Story

In a rural village of Telangana called Bandanarsampally, three youths Mai (Sumanth Prabhas), Bali (Mourya) and Durga (Mani Aegurla) are vagabonds with no purpose in their lives. This creates so many problems for them. The love of Mai and Bali are in threat. The trio are under pressure to deliver and prove themselves. That’s when they start ‘Famous Tent-house’ by taking debts. But an unexpected tragedy struck their tent business resulting in huge loss. What is the next business idea that they pick which makes them “Famous” forms the crux of the story. This in turn resolves the problems of the village.

Analysis

Not every Friday, we come across a film like Mem Famous. It has all the ingredients to make it work. Though the plot of 3 buddies (underdogs) becoming successful and famous isn’t new, it is the manner in which it was conceived and portrayed made all the difference. Newcomers Sumanth Prabhas, Mourya and Mani have done a great job. Kiran Macha as Sarpanch Jinka Venu scores brownie points. Anji Mama and Shiva Nandhan (Lipstick Spoiler) who stole the show with their hilarious performance. Muralidhar Goud as heroine Saarya Laxman (Mounika) 's father nailed it with his acting. Narendra Ravi gives a natural performance as photographer Bhaskar. All the characters have a freshness which adds value to the film.

The first half largely deals with the lives and plight of Mai, Bali and Durga. How their lives are interconnected and establishes their friendship so well. The interval sequence is the highlight of the film which turns their lives upside down. This needs to be watched on the big screen. The second half is where the real story unfolds. How the new business idea of Mai and Durga along with Lipstick spoiler and Anji Mama becomes successful? It has predictable elements. The film also has a simple climax. But all these are excusable. Mem Famous has a good dose of fun and emotion. The entertainment is what worked to the core. The dialogues are funny. They have authentic Telangana slang. Overall, Mem Famous is a buddy and coming-of-age film that hits the right chords.
