Saalumarada Thimmakka’s Demise Sparks Holiday Rumours; Karnataka Government Issues Clarification
A wave of misinformation swept across social media on Friday, November 14, night following the passing of Padma Shri awardee and renowned environmentalist Saalumarada Thimmakka. Several posts claimed that the Karnataka government had declared November 15 as a holiday for schools, colleges, and government offices.
However, officials swiftly dismissed the claims as false. The Department of Information and Public Relations clarified that no holiday has been announced and confirmed that the viral notification circulating online is a doctored document. Authorities noted that the forged order was created by altering an old circular issued after the death of former chief minister S. M. Krishna. The officer whose signature was misused on the fabricated document is no longer in service.
The government stated that Thimmakka will be accorded state honours for her final rites, but reiterated that no public holiday has been declared.
