YS Jagan to Launch Another Praja Sankalpa Yatra in 2027, Announces Perni Nani
The YSR Congress Party leaders commemorated the eighth anniversary of the historic Praja Sankalpa Padayatra undertaken by party president and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, describing it as a golden chapter in India’s political history. The celebrations were held at the party’s central office in Tadepalli, led by office in-charge Lella Appi Reddy, where leaders cut a cake and recalled Jagan’s monumental 341-day walk covering 3,648 km across 13 districts and 134 constituencies, meeting lakhs of people from all walks of life.
Speaking at the event, former minister Perni Nani made a sensational announcement that Jagan Mohan Reddy will embark on another Praja Sankalpa Padayatra in 2027, aimed at countering what he called the “corrupt, anti-people rule” of the present alliance government.
Alliance government destroyed reforms in education and healthcare
Party leaders strongly criticised the alliance government, alleging that the education and healthcare reforms introduced by Jagan had been completely dismantled. They said innocent devotees losing lives in temple stampedes were a direct result of the government’s inefficiency and negligence.
“The sectors Jagan reformed with a vision of providing free, quality education and medical care to all have now been pushed into total ruin under Chandrababu’s leadership,” said Perni Nani. “Because of the greed and selfishness of those in power, Andhra Pradesh is witnessing back-to-back tragedies. In 2027, Jagan will once again go to the people through another Padayatra.”
Prominent leaders including former ministers Sake Sailajanath, Merugu Nagarjuna, former MLAs Malladi Vishnu, T.J.R. Sudhakar Babu, MLCs Mondithoka Arun Kumar, Murugudu Hanumantha Rao, Varudu Kalyani, Ruhulla, and party spokesperson Karumuri Venkata Reddy attended the event.
A historic decision that changed state politics
Former minister Merugu Nagarjuna said Jagan’s decision to walk across the state was a courageous step that transformed the political landscape of Andhra Pradesh. “Through the Padayatra, Jagan connected with people at every step, listening to their hopes and struggles. He implemented every promise he made and set a new benchmark for governance,” he said.
Jagan’s people’s governance will return
Former minister Sake Sailajanath stated that Jagan’s Padayatra gave him firsthand insight into people’s problems and aspirations, which he addressed after assuming office. “The alliance government came to power by making false promises and has now betrayed the very people who voted for them. They are harassing YSRCP leaders with fabricated cases. I firmly believe Jagan’s people-centric governance will return,” he said.
Jagan’s legacy in education and healthcare
Recalling Jagan’s leadership, Perni Nani said the former CM stood firm despite obstacles, cases, and political pressure. “Through his 3,648 km Padayatra, Jagan personally interacted with people in 2,516 villages, listening to their concerns and explaining his vision for the state,” he said.
Jagan is credited with bringing a revolution in healthcare, establishing 17 new medical colleges and completing 7 others during his five-year rule. He also launched the ‘Nadu-Nedu’ programme, transforming over 16,000 government schools to near-corporate standards, a feat never seen before in state history.
“Under Kejriwal’s government in Delhi, 800 schools were transformed in 10 years. But under Jagan, despite losing two years to COVID-19, 16,000 schools were modernised in just three years. Parents were even requesting MLAs for recommendations to get seats in government schools — that’s how much the system improved,” Nani said.
He accused the current alliance government of reversing these gains by scrapping English-medium education and attempting to privatise the medical colleges built during Jagan’s tenure. “Chandrababu is selling out state assets and crushing poor students’ dreams. His rule is a curse for the poor,” he added.
Tragedies show the failure of current rule
Nani further accused Chandrababu Naidu of running a reckless and insensitive administration. “Under his rule, temple stampedes have killed innocent devotees — seven at Simhachalam, nine at Tirupati, and nine more at Kashi Bugga temple on Ekadashi. Instead of taking responsibility, the government calls them private temple mishaps. This is shameful,” he said.
He also criticised Nara Lokesh for mocking Jagan’s relief visits to cyclone-hit areas, saying, “While farmers were crying after the Montha cyclone, Lokesh was in Mumbai enjoying a cricket match with his family. This shows their arrogance and lack of empathy.”
Nani concluded that the 2027 Praja Sankalpa Padayatra will once again bring Jagan closer to the people, reviving the spirit of his earlier journey. “Just as he did eight years ago, Jagan will personally meet people across the state and embrace their concerns,” he said.
