AP Elections 2024: 5 Reasons Why TDP-Jana Sena Pact will Fail to Make a Mark in Polls

 - Sakshi Post

Even though the elections are fast approaching, the time seems to stand still in the Telugu Desam Party as the party leadership is clueless about the biggest political fight in the coming weeks in Andhra Pradesh. The TDP sent feelers to BJP to form a tripartite alliance ahead of simultaneous elections in the state. However, the saffron party has not responded to the offer yet.

On the contrary, the ruling YSRCP is preparing for the ensuing elections with a blazing speed. The ruling party is clear about who will contest the elections. Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is holding mammoth public meetings aptly titled ‘Siddham’ at various places in the state.

Currently, the TDP is in alliance with Jana Sena party and if you scratch the surface of TDP-JanaSena combine, you’ll only see arrogance and one-upmanship among its leaders. As a result, the idea that the anti-YSRCP votes should not be split is not working. Now, let’s see what the political analysts say about the catch-22 situation of the opposition-led alliance.

  1. Poll bugle has been sounded and yet the TDP and Jana Sena Party are still contemplating on the suggestions of ticket aspirants of the alliance. With Jana Sena, the knives are out already within the TDP camp over the seat-sharing formula. And, if BJP joins the tripartite alliance, the simmering difference over the tickets and revolt from the TDP and Jana Sena will spill out into the open. Meanwhile, the pre-poll surveys have predicted a blow to the opposition alliance.
  2. If BJP agrees to contest AP assembly elections alongwith the TDP and Jana Sena, then the number of seats TDP giving up will reach anywhere between 50 to 75 out of the 175 assembly seats the main opposition hoped to fight in the ensuing elections.
  3. This election is going to be a hard nut to crack for the opposition. The TDP-led alliance is having a hard time picking strong candidates due to the social justice ensured by the ruling YSRCP in the distribution of seats to ticket aspirants.
  4. The opposition alliance will lose its minority vote bank this election. The TDP did not field a single minority candidate during the 2014 elections and therefore, it is anybody’s guess that Chandrababu Naidu’s party stands to lose the minority community votes.
  5. TDP leadership is pinning their hopes on Sharmila of Congress party in cutting the vote share of ruling YSRC party. It is too early to say how much impact she is going to make, especially after she lost the credibility by merging her party in Telangana.
