Of Bhanupriya, Trafficking And Child Labour: What’s The Truth?

Four minor girls were found in the house of Telugu-Tamil actress Bhanupriya’s house. One of the Girl’s mother filed a complaint against the actress in Andhra Pradesh stating that the actress had taken her daughter to Chennai with the pretext of giving her a job, but has not paid the girl any salaries. The mother also complained that Bhanupriya wasn’t allowing her to even meet her daughter.

Child rights activist Achyutha Rao wrote to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and also the state commission. The NCPCR reportedly ordered the raid. He also demanded the arrest of the actress for violation of the Child Labour Act.

Achyutha Rao said after reports that four girls were found In the house after the raid, and investigations are on to check if this could be a trafficking racket, as the girls have testified about sexual abuse.

Rao added that both the mother of the girl and the actress had violated child rights, but if more girls are being brought into Chennai from AP through the same channel, then there is no doubt that this will be catogarised under a case of trafficking.

While the mother says that her daughter is 15, Bhanupriya says that she was told that she was 18. She also denied any allegations of ill-treatment.

The actress on the other hand alleges that the girl had stolen jewellery and gadgets and handed them over to her mother, for which a complaint has been filed, and this was what triggered the mother to make up a false allegation against her in AP.

The mother claims that salaries have not been paid to the girl for the past 18 months.

“A few days ago, my daughter called me from an unkown mobile no. and told me that she was being ill-treated and sexually abused. I had gone to Chennai to meet my daughter and was not allowed to,” said the mother.

Bhanupriya is famous for her films in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.
