Crowning Irony: Chandrababu Preaches About Democracy

Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu - Sakshi Post

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Nara Chandrababu Naidu has, in what can only be described as crowning irony, hailed the victory of democracy in Karnataka in a tweet. His Twitter post referring to the defeat of the BJP, following its failure to muster enough numbers comes as a bit funny seen against his own actions. The memory of Chandrababu Naidu herding 150 MLAs to Hotel Viceroy in 1995 and keeping them captive, while the Chief Minister of the day and his father-in-law, the legendary NTR, watched helplessly, is fresh in the minds of people of both the Telugu-speaking states. Who can forget the desperate appeals made by NTR atop a van outside hotel Viceroy to the MLAs holed up inside back then?

Today, Chandrababu Naidu seems to have suddenly discovered the virtues of democracy after the events which unfolded in the Karnataka drama. This is what his tweet had to say:

Two things are obvious. One, Chandrababu wants to distance himself in public perception to the extent possible, from the BJP. Secondly, he wants to cosy up to the opposition, whether or not the others are in a mood to currently oblige him.
