New Delhi: Kickstarting the discussion on special category status (SCS) for Andhra Pradesh in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, Congress party Rajya Sabha member Jairam Ramesh has questioned the NDA government about its promises and asked it to implement all the assurances in AP Reorganization Bill.

Recalling the six major promises made by then Prime Minister at the time of AP bifurcation in 2014, Jairam Ramesh has demanded the NDA government to implement them fully.

Congress had agreed on special status for five years, but BJP leader Venkaih Naidu demand for 10 years. Congress party had decided to extend financial support to Polavaram project and special economic packages to backward districts. Now, what’s is NDA government doing on these issues,

“Congress had agreed on special status for five years, but BJP leader Venkaih Naidu demand for 10 years. Now, what’s is NDA government doing on these issues,” points out Jairam Ramesh, who was the chief architect of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

“Congress party had decided to extend financial support to Polavaram project and special economic packages to backward districts. Now, I raise a question on these aspects. What’s the progress made so far,” questions Jairam Ramesh.

The NDA government should come out with a clarity on financial assistance extend to AP so far. What measures have been taken to bridge the revenue deficit of AP. So far, nothing happened on High Court bifurcation also.

Coming in support of AP, Samajwadi Party MP Naresh Agarwal has demanded NDA government for clarity on special status. Trinamul Congress party MP SukenduRai said 10 states including AP and Paschim Bangla were suffering a lot.

JDU MP Ansari advised the NDA government not to forget assurances given to AP. “ BJP should recall what all promises it made when it was in opposition and now in government,” said Ansari.
