Amaravati: After a successful bandh across the state yesterday, the students' unions and opposition parties today formed human chains in the 13 districts demanding Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh as well as to fulfill the promises made in AP Reorganisation Act. According to the students' union leaders over ten million students participated in the human chain protest across the state.

The students' union leaders said that only if SCS was accorded to the state, the students would find employment. By accepting Special Package, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu cheated the student community. They said that the AP CM did a U-turn over the SCS since the elections were approaching. The TDP MPs should have resigned like YSRCP MPs, they said and added that their fight would continue until SCS was achieved.

Krishna district

Human chain was formed in Nandigama's Gandhi centre under the leadership of student JAC demanding SCS to AP. Police obstructed the chain formation while led to a tussle between the students and police. Later police arrested the students.

Kadapa district

A massive human chain was formed at Kadapa's Kotireddy Circle. The students were seen raising slogans in demand for SCS and Kadapa steel plant. YSRCP Student union, AISF, Jana Sena Student wing and SFI leaders and members participated. Later police foiled the human chain by arresting the student leaders.

West Godavari district

Demanding SCS to AP, students and youth associations' JAC formed human chain at Eluru Fire Station Centre. A large number of students participated in the programme.

Chittoor district

Students formed a human chain demanding SCS to the state at Chittoor Gandhi Circle. A large number of students participated in the programme and made it a success.

Vizianagaram district

Under the leadership of youth associations, students formed human chains in Parvathipuram RTC Complex. Both the Left parties - CPM and CPI as well as Jana Sena party supported the programme.

Nellore district

Under the leadership of PDSU, students formed human chain at Magunta Circle in Nellore demanding SCS to the state. The student union leaders said that they would intensify the stir further.
