Hyderabad: The drugs case which created a sensation in the Telugu states is once again back in the news. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Telangana in a report cleared the names of the Tollywood celebrities who were suspected to be involved in the drug racket and stated that they were victims.

Two years back, the Telangana Excise (Enforcement) Department in Hyderabad busted a major drug racket which supplied high-end drugs like lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and methylenedioxy- methamphetamine (MDMA) to people in the corporate sector, students and celebrities. The case became a sensation after the list of celebrity names was leaked to the media with many film personalities appearing before the SIT of the Excise department for questioning. However, the investigation didn't progress.

Later, the Forum for Good Governance secretary M Padmanabha Reddy collected the details through the RTI Act and raised an objection for claiming that the celebrities were victims in the case. The complainant also filed a complaint with the Telangana General Secretary that attempts were being made to dilute the case.

In connection with the case, officials questioned at least 62 people and filed four charge sheets. While the statements of the film personalities were recorded, nail and hair samples were collected, no charge sheet was filed against any of them. A total of 12 cases were registered by the SIT. The names of Tollywood celebrities which were included in the charge sheet have been given a clean chit by the SIT officials.
