Hyderabad Bullet Train to Connect Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune
Hyderabad is set to become a major hub in India's high-speed rail network with plans for three new bullet train corridors. The proposed routes will connect the city with Bengaluru, Chennai, and Pune, reducing travel time from more than 10 hours to just around two hours.
The announcement was made by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during his visit to Hyderabad after an interaction with IT industry representatives. He said the new high-speed rail projects would significantly improve connectivity and boost economic growth across southern and western India.
One of the proposed corridors will link Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Once completed, the journey between the two cities is expected to take just about 2 hours and 10 minutes, compared to the current train travel time of nearly 12 to 15 hours.
Another major route will connect Hyderabad and Chennai through Amaravati. The planned corridor will cover approximately 760 kilometres, cutting the travel duration from nearly 12 hours to around 2.5 hours.
The third high-speed rail line will connect Hyderabad and Pune. The proposed bullet train is expected to complete the journey in about 2 hours and 8 minutes, offering a much faster alternative to the current rail trip, which usually takes over 10 hours.
According to reports, the new bullet trains are being designed to operate at a maximum speed of 350 kmph, while their regular operating speed is expected to be around 320 kmph. Taking station stops and route curves into account, the average travel speed is likely to range between 200 and 250 kmph.
The three proposed corridors are expected to strengthen Hyderabad's position as an important transportation and business hub. Faster travel between major cities could also improve business opportunities, tourism, and regional connectivity while making long-distance travel far more convenient for passengers.
Although the projects are still in the planning stage, the announcement has generated excitement among travelers and industry experts, who believe the bullet train network could transform rail travel in the region.
