National Youth Day: YS Jagan Pays Tribute to Swami Vivekananda, Flags Crisis Facing AP Youth

 - Sakshi Post

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy paid tribute to Swami Vivekananda on the occasion of National Youth Day, invoking the iconic leader’s call for focused, goal-driven youth as the foundation of a strong India.

In a message shared on social media, YS Jagan recalled Swami Vivekananda’s belief that a nation progresses only when its youth are empowered with purpose and opportunity. He, however, questioned whether the present state administration is creating conditions that allow young people in Andhra Pradesh to realise those ideals.

Painting a grim picture of the situation on the ground, the YSRCP chief alleged that students and unemployed youth are facing severe hardship due to the government’s failure to honour key welfare and education-related commitments. He pointed out that fee reimbursement has remained unpaid for eight consecutive quarters, while dues under Vidya Deevena have reportedly crossed ₹4,900 crore. Additionally, Vasathi Deevena arrears to the tune of ₹2,200 crore are still pending, he said.

YS Jagan further alleged that the promised monthly unemployment allowance of ₹3,000, a major assurance made in the election manifesto, has not been implemented for over two years. He also claimed that online certification and skill-development courses, which were meant to enhance employability among youth, have been discontinued.

Accusing the government of betraying young citizens by reneging on its promises, YS Jagan warned that such policies are endangering not just the future of the youth but also the long-term prospects of the state itself. Calling upon the N. Chandrababu Naidu-led government to course-correct, he urged it to “arise, awake, and facilitate the youth to achieve their goals,” echoing Swami Vivekananda’s timeless exhortation.

The remarks come on National Youth Day, observed annually on January 12 to mark Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary and to reaffirm the role of youth in nation-building.
