The movie stars Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari in the lead roles - Sakshi Post

P. Manasa

Mani Ratnam's Cheliya in Telugu is creating quite a buzz among cinephiles right from its teaser launch. This is among the most anticipated films this year. The filmmaker has woven plot around the theme of 'love' and excelled in giving an “awe moment” to his fans in each of his film. The movie is all set to hit the screen across the two Telugu states and in Tamil Nadu as Kaatru Veliyidai on April 7. And we bring you why should you watch this movie...

1. Mani Ratnam

It won't be wrong to call Mani Ratnam as the king of romance. Right from Roja, Bombay, etc. till his last release OK Bangaram, his movies have been lapped up cutting across generations. He is among few directors whose vision charms the audiences and wows them through his vision on celluloid. And the director is back with Cheliya to satiate your senses.

2. AR Rahman

Mani Ratnam and Rahman's combination is breezy and ARR's music is an earworm. Whether, it’s Paruvam Vanaga, Humma Humma or Mental Madhilo ... each tune stands out from Rahman's previous compositions.

The first song Hamsaro from Cheliya and Azhagiye from Kaatru Veliyidai was an instant chartbuster. And then came Vaan Varuvaan which takes you into trance and you flow with heartwarming lyrics. Keelayo is another romantic duet, where you travel up and down with the musical beats with textures to it. Interestingly, life has come full circle for the duo as they celebrate 25 years of their collaboration with this film.

3. Picturesque Cinematography

When it's Mani Ratnam's film, then you are ought to be smitten by the exceptionally beautiful locales. While others go for foreign locales for a song shoot or any other scene, Mani Ratnam finds an extraordinary locale locally and it fits aptly.

Cheliya visuals have been talk of the town. Most of the scenes have been shot in Leh, Ladakh and Kashmir. Cinematographer Ravi Verman collaborates for the first time with Ratnam for this flick.

4. Breezy Romance

Ratnam invariably ends up weaving stories with love plots. Needless to say, his each plot comes with a novel subject. This film has a story about an Air Force pilot who falls in love with a doctor played by Aditi Rao Hydari. In Ratnam's words, it is not an intimate subject like Ok Bangaram but a classic drama. The trailer shows an intense love story which has lot shades in Karthi's character. It appears to be an unusual story with many layers to unfold.

5. Histrionics

Ratnam has mastered the fine art of picking his artistes. Karthi has a boy next door image carrying his signature smile in all his movies, but Ratnam was so particular about his character that his signature style was nowhere allowed to creep into the film. And we bet the lead actress Aditi was never shown more beautifully.

The film will hit the marquee on Friday.
