City Rejoices As Ganeshas Are On Their Way For ‘Nimajjanam’

Hyderabad: After a nine-day-long devotional celebrations, about 10,000 Ganeshas installed in various localities in the city and its outskirts are being taken in procession for Nimajjanam today.

City's famous 57-foot tall Khairatabad Ganesh was offered pujas by thousands of devotees before it started its journey to Hussain Sagan for Nimajjanam this morning. The statue will be put into the water by this afternoon.

Another large idol of Ganesh from Balapur is also on its way to Tank Bund. The Laddu of Balapur Ganesh got a whopping Rs15.60 lakh in the auction. The Balapur Ganesh Laddu auction is a special attraction in the Ganesh festival celebrations every year. Last year, the Laddu got a price of Rs14.65 lakh from a local leader Skylab Reddy.

This year’s Balapur Ganesh Laddu has been brought by one Nagam Tirupathi Reddy of Ayyappa Society in Madhapur. Reddy is a native of Vanaparthy district.

The money earned from the Laddu auction is spent on village development and welfare activities. Local leaders and businessmen compete to own the Laddu as they believe it is very auspicious and brings them good luck.

Meanwhile, the city is under tight security with over 26,000 police personnel on duty and 20,000 cameras watching the public movement.

All arrangements including heavy cranes have been arranged at Tank Bund where the highest number of idols will be put to Nimajjanam apart from 24 other lakes in the city.

Special buses and MMTS trains are being operated for the devotees to Tank Bund.
