Onion Prices Continue To Soar In AP As Residents Opt For No-Onion Recipes

Vijayawada: The prices of onions continues to soar and it has touched Rs 65 kg in Vijayawada markets on Wednesday. A day earlier it was sold at Rs 47 per kg in Rythu Bazaars in the city and Rs 60 in private markets, a news agency reported.

The state receives onions from neighbouring Maharashtra and due to continuous rains, there is a shortage in the market and retailers have blamed many whole sellers for shortage. This has led to price rise in the market.

Consumers complain that the price of good quality onions have rose three times in the past two weeks.

The middle-class have been severely hit with the price rise as onions are a mandatory add-on in every meal .

One customer said, "The prices are very high and it is difficult for middle-class people to purchase onions. Just few days ago, I bought onions at half the price."
