TDP, TRS Workers Clash In Serilingampally

Hyderabad: Telugu Desam party cadre and Telangana Rashtra Samithi cadre were involved in a scuffle in the Serilingampally constituency. TRS supporters objected to their rival TDP candidate’s campaign. This incident occurred in the locality of Allwyn colony. Breakfast was arranged for the TDP supporters in the colony’s society office. TRS supporters who came to know about the breakfast programme, reached the place in large numbers.

The TRS workers accused the local TDP of breaching the election code. The TRS workers later started protesting in front of the building. This later led to a skirmish, which was cleared by the police. Arekepudi Gandhi is the candidate from TRS and Venigalla Anand Prasad, also known as Bhavya Anand, a local construction tycoon are facing off in a keenly contested election.

Earlier this seat was sought by Bikshapathi Yadav from the Congress party, who was the winner in the 2009 elections from the same party. As it turned out, Yadav lost out in the Mahakutami deal and was miffed. He threatened to contest as a rebel candidate, but climbed down after Congress leaders from Delhi, including Ahmed Patel, requested him to step down. He was promised a prominent role if the Mahakutami comes to power. In 2014 A. Gandhi won the seat from TDP but later joined TRS and is currently running on its ticket for a second term.
