Miryalaguda Dalit Youth Murder: Contract Killers, Girl’s Father And Uncle Arrested

Miryalaguda: Police arrested four accused in the sensational murder case in which a Dalit youth, Pranay, was killed in broad daylight here yesterday. Among the arrested are the girl‘s father, Maruthi Rao, uncle Shravan and two hired killers. The horrific killing of young Pranay in front of his wife, Amrutha, who is pregnant, shook the entire state of Telangana. They were returning from a visit to her gynaecologist for a check-up when he was attacked and killed.

It is learnt that the girl’s father Maruthi Rao, got the honour killing executed by the hired killers because he felt that his “honour” was at stake and was more important than that of his daughter. He is believed to have told the police that he got Pranay murdered because the young engineer got married to a girl from a higher caste. Moreover, Maruthi Rao is reported to have been unrepentant about his merciless decision to get the poor Dalit boy killed.

Maruthi Rao is believed to have told the police that he knew of Pranay and Amrutha’s close relationship from their school days from the time they were in ninth standard. He had warned them several times and had asked Pranay to stay away from his daughter.

After the two got married, he decided to get rid of Pranay and hired killers by paying them Rs.10 lakhs for committing the crime. Maruthi Rao paid Rs.5 lakhs as advance and the killers did a recce job for two months before killing Pranay yesterday, he is reported to have admitted to the police.
