Reason Behind MP Kavitha’s Campaign On Helmet Gift To Brothers For Raksha Bandhan

MP Kavitha’s Campaign On Helmet Gift To Brothers For Raksha Bandhan: Telangana Rashtra Samithi MP K Kavitha said it was a short film made by a boy called Vamsi that inspired her to take up the #Sisters4Change initiative, that encourages women to gift a helmet to their brothers on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, besides tying the Rakhi. The TRS leader shared her thoughts on the success of her campaign with Sakshipost.
Launched last year on the ocasion of the birthday of her brother, IT Minister K Taraka Rama Rao, better known as KTR, the noble initiative was a big hit among women across the country. Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Smriti Irani, badminton stars Jwala Gutta and Saina Nehwal, cricketers Mithali Raj, Gautam Gambhir, Virendra Sehwag and many other celebrities came forward in support of this campaign. This time around, as we approach Raksha Bandhan 2018 (Sunday), Kavitha's initiative is garnering even more support and pictures of men wearing helmets are all over social media with #Sisters4Change trend.
In Kavitha's words, governments and the rules never appealed to the youth when it came to road safety. "Youth of today have lame excuses for not wearing the helmet when riding a motorcycle. I believe it is the love of sisters that can make the change happen. Sisters can play a major role in improving the awareness on road safety with this initiative," she said.
It All Began With A Short Film
The Lok Sabha member was inspired by a Vamsi, who made a beautiful short film that stressed on the need for road safety. The film portrays the suffering of a sister who loses her brother in an accident with severe head injuries.
"The governments have imposed fines and punishment for not wearing helmets. Clearly it did not work," she added. On an average, about 30 people riding two-wheeler vehicles lose their lives everyday in road accidents, which would otherwise prevent the danger if a helmet is worn. Gift your brother a helmet this rakhi and avoid the danger!
