Tankbund railing to be raised to prevent suicides

Hyderabad: Hussain Sagar... Tankbund, the most prominent landmark of the city is increasingly becoming popular for suicides of late. Cases of suicides could be contained to some extent thanks to an increased police vigil around the lake, attempts to die by jumping into the poisonous waters are still at an alarming level.

To prevent the suicides and suicide attempts, the city administration and the police are increasing the height of the railings on Tankbund around Hussain Sagar. A decision has been taken in this regard by Deputy Mayor of GHMC Baba Fasiuddin on Saturday keeping in view of the recent increase of the suicide attempts by jumping into the lake.

After reviewing the situation at the lake by personally visiting the place, Fasiuddin came out with the idea to prevent suicides at Hussain Sagar. It was also decided to set up more water fountains in the lake as part of beautification. The repairs of the barriers that were damaged during the Ganesh idol immersions will also be taken up.
