Mallannasagar Reservoir Receives Godavari Water From KLIS

 - Sakshi Post

The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) achieved another milestone on Sunday when Godavari water was lifted from KLIS to Mallannasagar reservoir, one of the biggest reservoirs in Telangana. The trial run of pumping water into the reservoir is particularly significant because it is the dream come true moment for Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

The KLIS engineer-in-chief Hari Ram performed special puja and switched on the pumps in the wee hours of Sunday. Out of the eight motors, three pumps were tested and would run for about 24 hours to ascertain that there were no technical snags. Each motor will pump 0.1 tmc ft water if it is run for a day and it was stated that by Monday morning, 0.3 tmc ft water would flow into the reservoir.

The massive 50 tmc reservoir was constructed at a cost of Rs 7,400 crore. With its completion, nearly 18 lakh acres in the erstwhile districts of Medak, Nalgonda and Nizamabad will receive assured irrigation and drinking water. Though the project was scheduled to be completed earlier, the incessant rains this year delayed the filling process a bit.

After the trial run become successful, Finance Minister T Harish Rao and farmers were overjoyed. “The government had to overcome many obstacles and face much criticism to make Mallanna Sagar reservoir come alive,” Harish Rao said.

He further tweeted, “The government has proved to the world yet again that it can achieve greater heights through confidence and perseverance as well as faith in people. We have driven away drought forever.”
