IndiGo announced on Sunday that it will cancel around 20% of its flights due to an increase in Covid cases caused by the Omicron variation, and that it will also waive change fees till March 31 in response to customer needs. 

A change charge is paid by a passenger in order to change their flight date. The airline stated that due to the increasing number of infections, a considerable number of IndiGo passengers are changing their vacation plans.

"In response to consumer demand, IndiGo is removing change fees and allowing free adjustments for all new and current bookings made up to January 31, for flights up to March 31, 2022," the company stated.

The budget carrier said, with reduced demand, it will also selectively withdraw some flights from service. "We anticipate that around 20 per cent of our current scheduled operations will be withdrawn from service." flights will be cancelled at least 72 hours in advance, and passengers will be relocated to the next available flight and will also be allowed to modify their travel through the use of Plan B (part) on our website," it said. 

The airline encouraged the customers to digital channels since the call centers have been handling a large volume of calls.
