Ban on 5 Medicines of Ramdev’s Divya Pharmacy Uplifted Days Later

 - Sakshi Post

New Delhi: Days after asking the yoga guru Ramdev’s Divya Pharmacy to halt the production of five medicines, the Uttarakhand Ayurveda and Unani Licensing Authority has revoked its ban. The new order has given permission to Divya Pharmacy to continue producing the five medicines.

After repeated violation of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement) Act by Ramdev’s Divya Pharmacy, the authorities had asked the company to stop the production of BPgrit, Madhugrit, Thyrogrit, Lipidom and Eyegrit Gold tablets. These drugs were being promoted as cures for these diseases blood pressure, diabetes, goitre, high cholesterol and glaucoma respectively.

The state drugs regulator for Ayurveda and Unani medicine had taken this action against the Divya Pharmacy following a complaint filed by Kerala-based ophthalmologist Dr KV Babu. The Kerala-based doctor had said the drugs for treatment of glaucoma advertised by Divya Pharmacy may pose a threat to eyesight.

The state drugs regulator for Ayurveda and Unani medicine issued an amended order on Saturday allowing the firm to resume production of these medicines. The state health authority GCN Jangpangi said it (earlier ban order) had been issued in haste. “We should have given the company time to explain its stand before issuing the order,” Jangpangi said.

Meanwhile, Patanjali issued a statement stating all the products and medicines made by Divya Pharmacy are according to the prescribed standards, fulfilling all statutory processes.

“We are being attacked by those who run the business of confusion and fear in the world of medicine,” the statement said. It also said there were clear signs of resistance from the “anti-Ayurveda drug mafia”.
