Hyderabad: Major Smuggling Bust at RGIA; Rs.4 Crores Worth Weed Seized!

Authorities at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) seized a massive consignment of high-grade hydroponic weed worth nearly Rs 4 crore after intercepting a passenger who arrived from Bangkok on November 11.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), acting on specific intelligence, conducted a detailed inspection of the passenger’s baggage. During the search, officials discovered 4.3 kg of premium hydroponic cannabis hidden inside a trolley bag. The narcotics were packed beneath multiple layers to avoid detection. The passenger was immediately arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

This bust adds to a growing pattern of narcotics smuggling attempts through major Indian airports. Security officials say traffickers increasingly use sophisticated concealment methods, Southeast Asian travel routes, and international couriers to move contraband into the country.

Following the seizure, DRI teams have intensified their investigation to trace the source of the narcotics, identify local handlers, and map links to broader trafficking networks. Hyderabad airport has been placed on heightened alert as authorities coordinate with customs, immigration, and intelligence branches to strengthen surveillance and scanning processes.

With the seized hydroponic weed valued at around Rs 4 crore, the case highlights the scale and seriousness of narcotics smuggling challenges faced by enforcement agencies across India.
