Indian professionals working in the United States on H-1B visas received major relief after the White House dismissed speculation that they would be removed from jobs and sent back to India.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified that President Donald Trump does not support any policy aimed at expelling foreign skilled workers from the country. She said the President’s understanding of H-1B visas is “basic,” but he has never suggested deporting visa holders or replacing them with American workers.

Responding to media reports claiming that H-1B employees would be replaced by U.S. citizens, Leavitt strongly rejected the claims, stating that such stories were based on “misinterpretation” of the President’s comments.

Leavitt said Trump encourages:
• Foreign companies to invest heavily in the U.S.
• Bringing their skilled professionals to America
• Strengthening key sectors like technology, batteries and manufacturing

However, she added that in the long term, Trump wants more job opportunities to open up for Americans.

The confusion emerged after Trump recently said that companies doing business in the U.S. should employ American citizens. The White House said the statement was taken out of context.

Leavitt also explained that Trump imposed tariffs on several countries to revive U.S. manufacturing and push foreign firms to set up production units in America.

A recent remark by Trump — suggesting that foreign companies may bring skilled workers to the U.S., train Americans and later return — sparked widespread debate, adding to the misunderstanding.
