Bengaluru Horror: Brothers Bludgeoned For Not Knowing Kannada

The rising spectre of linguistic parochialism is rocking cosmopolitan Bengaluru. Two persons, both of Kashmiri origin were physically attacked and their car subjected to stone-pelting for not speaking in Kannada language.

The incident occurred a week ago but came to light only on Monday. Two persons, both brothers from Kashmir, were living in Bengaluru for over five years. On December 12, they were accosted by a group of 10 persons while returning in their car after having a dinner at a star hotel in the city. They stopped the car at NTI Bus-stand in Sanjay Nagar and asked them to speak in Kannada. When the couple expressed their inability as they were north Indians, the hooligans began hitting them and told them to leave Bengaluru if they did not know Kannada language.

The siblings tried to reason with them, but the people were in no mood to listen. They threw stones on the car and attacked them. The brothers lodged a complaint with the Bengaluru North Police Station.

The police have identified two persons involved in the attack and booked cases under Section 341 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code.
