AP MLC elections a mere formality

The MLC elections in Andhra Pradesh have become a mere formality with five nominations filed for five seats.

The TDP has nominated three persons and left one seat for its ally, the BJP. The YSRCP has nominated DC Govinda Reddy as its candidate for the fifth seat.

On behalf of the TDP, former Assembly speaker Prathibha Bharathi, MA Sharief and TD Janardhana Rao have filed their nominations, while BJP all India general secretary Somu Veerraju has filed his papers. Veerraju has been rewarded for his loyalty to the party and for the key role he played in roping in Pawan Kalyan into the 2014 election campaign.

The election result would be announced on Friday after the scrutiny of the nomination forms.
