CBI To Probe TDP Yerapathineni Palnadu Illegal Mining Case

Former TDP MLA Yarapathineni Srinivasa Rao - Sakshi Post

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh High Court in its directives has told the government that it was free to entrust the investigation into the illegal mining to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) agency for investigation into the illegal limestone mining by former TDP MLA Yarapathineni Srinivasa Rao on Wednesday.

The State government earlier informed the HC of its decision to hand over investigation into the illegal limestone mining case in which Gurazala former MLA Yarapathineni was allegedly involved, to the CBI. They said that the complaints were of serious nature which needed a high-level probe. Advocate-General Subrahmanyam Sriram told the court that there were several complaints of illegal mining against the TDP leader in Piduguralla, Dachepalli and Nadikudi areas in the Guntur region since 2014 and CB-CID had inquired into the matter.

Investigations by the CB-CID into the mining scam revealed that Yerapathineni along with several of his benamis like Bullebbai, Ghattamaneni Nageshwara Rao, Muppana Venkateswarulu and others conducted illegal mining of limestone in the region and amassed crores of rupees in the past five years.

A case had been filed against TDP leader Yerapathineni Srinivasa Rao and 12 others in connection with illegal mining. Local police filed the case against the offenders based on the directives from the court. Mining assistant director Jagannadh Rao, RDO Murali, and CI Hanumantha Rao were also named in the case.

The illegal mining in the region came to light when one K Guruvachary moved the court in 2015, to expose the illegal mining of limestone in the Palnadu region, particularly in the Gurazala constituency. This angered the TDP leaders and Guruvachary were badly beaten. Despite Guruvachary lodging a complaint, no case was registered earlier by the police. He had no option but to move the High Court, after which the investigation details and the extent of illegal mining which was done by the TDP leader and his aides in the Palnadu region had come out.
