YV Subba Reddy Appointed As TTD Chairman

Amaravati: YSRCP senior leader YV Subba Reddy has been appointed as the chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) board. The state government issued the order on Friday night. He will be sworn in as the Chairman at Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple at 11 am on Saturday. The appointment was made in accordance with the Section 126 of the Andhra Pradesh Charitable and Hindu Religious Institutions and Endowments Act, 1987, special chief secretary (Revenue-Endowments) Manmohan Singh said in an order.

The appointment of other members of the board will be made soon. Subba Reddy, from Medarametla village of Prakasam district, was a close relative of the late Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

Early on Saturday morning, YV Subba Reddy reached Tirumala on foot. Speaking to the media after offering prayers at the temple, he thanked Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for providing him with the fortune to serve the devotees. YV Subba Reddy further said that the Chief Minister had directed him to maintain Hindu traditions and give high priority to the comforts of the devotees.

After the YSRCP won the recent Assembly polls, 11 members of the TTD Board, including its chairman, quit their post. Apart from the three ex-officio members, only three members remained on the board.

TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal submitted a report to the government stating that the quorum for holding a Board meeting was five as per the Section 126 of Act 30, 1987.

Keeping in view the few members on the Board, the executive officer in a letter requested the government to take action to ensure the smooth running of the TTD administration.

Based on the letter, the government has issued a decree, completely abolishing the old governing council, in order to create a full-fledged new governing body and issued an order appointing Subba Reddy as its chairman.
