Kakinada: Two children, both aged around 10 years were found dead inside a wooden box in an abandoned school building on Saturday. The children had gone missing from a function more than a week ago.

The incident took place in Jaddangi, an interior forest area, under Rajavommangi police limits in the Rampachodavarm forest division of East Godavari district.

Going into details, the children, identified as Bollem Prasanth Kumar and Chadem Karthik hailed from Rajavommangi village were on a visit to their grandparents' house in Chinnayyapalem village to spend the summer vacation.

On May 25, the two boys attended a marriage in Jaddangi, from where they disappeared. Learning that the boys didn't return home, the parents and relatives frantically searched for them in the two villages and surrounding areas but their efforts yielded no results. They lodged a complaint with the Jaddangi police station after which a missing case was registered.

Meanwhile, some kids, who were playing cricket at Rajavommangi on Saturday came in search for the ball in the school building. With a foul smell emenating from the premises, one of the boys alerted the villagers, who informed the police.

The Rajavommangi police found a wooden box inside the abandoned building and found the bodies of two children inside of it. The police are trying to investigate whether the children got into the box themselves and died of suffocation or whether they were murdered and stuffed into the box.

The police attempted to take the bodies to Addateegala town for post mortem but were unable to do so because of the decomposition of the bodies, hence measures were taken to conduct the post-mortem at the scene.
