Machilipatnam: The Zilla Parishad employees in Krishna district are in a state of shock with the news emerging that Rs 350 crore is missing from their collective provident fund account. Employees accuse the TDP government of swindling their hard-earned money to pay for the sops and doles announced by the ruling party, which is hell-bent on retaining power by any means.

As a result, the future of 10,090 general staff and 15,600 teachers employed with Zilla Parishad hangs in balance. Until the announcement of polls, the provident fund account had Rs 350 core, but it is now left with Rs 90,000 only. Another Rs 3 crore earmarked for taking up various development activities in different Panchayats is also missing. This apart, the Zilla Parishad officials are yet to clear bills pertaining to various works taken up from January. Although there are specific rules stating that each Panchayat should maintain at least Rs 30 lakh in its account, not a single penny is available in any of the Panchayats under the Zilla Parishad.

Employees feel this is the handiwork of the ruling TDP leaders to fund their electioneering and make payments to beneficiaries under various schemes such as Pasupu Kumkuma, old age pension, Rythu Bharosa among other schemes which were announced just before the elections to lure voters. The employees question why the government had to use their money, without any consent, when its coffers are running dry.
