Repolling Likely In 5 Centers Across AP: CEO Dwivedi

AP Chief Electoral Officer Gopal Krishna Dwivedi - Sakshi Post

Amaravati: The State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gopal Krishna Dwivedi has sent a proposal to the Chief Election Commission (CEC in Delhi ,) seeking repoll in five polling stations in three districts of Andhra Pradesh. The proposal was based on the recommendations of the Guntur, Nellore and Prakasam districts collectors submitted to the CEC.

Two centres each in Nellore and Guntur districts and one in Prakasam district required re-polling. As per the reports it was noted that many voters could not exercise their voting right mainly because of technical glitches in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM). The other reason was due to the violence that took place on the election day in Inumetla, Gurzala constituencies in Guntur district allegedly perpetuated by the ruling Telugu Desam Party.

Polling was delayed by four to eight hours in many places across Andhra Pradesh and in history of sorts continued beyond midnight on April 11.Many people had waited for more than three hours to cast their vote but returned as the poll officials took a long time to correct the issues. Women, senior citizens and first-time electorates turned up in large numbers to vote this time.

The Nellore district election authorities recommended repolling in Kovur and Sullurpet constituencies. There were technical problems in Kovur and Sullurpet constituencies, especially with the EVMs allocated for Lok Sabha seats which had malfunctioned.

AP CEO Gopal Krishna Dwivedi is likely to announce the date of re-polling in the evening today, once the CEC gives it nod for the repoll.
