Centre To HC: Studying NIA Probe In YS Jagan Murder Attempt

NIA Probe In YS Jagan Murder Attempt - Sakshi Post

The Centre, in its submission to the AP High Court on Wednesday, stated that it was considering the possibility of handing over the case related to the murder attempt on Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh assembly, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy which took place on October 25, to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The Centre explained that it would study whether the murder attempt on the AP Leader of Opposition at Visakhapatnam airport fell under the purview of the provisions of the NIA Act and then take a decision in the matter. It also stated that this would take some time.

The AP High Court directed the Centre to take a decision accordingly and and submit it in a sealed cover. It asked the Centre not to disclose the contents of the sealed cover. Meanwhile, the AP state government could proceed with its investigation, the court said. It adjourned hearing in the matter to December 14.

A bench consisting of Chief Justice TB Radhakrishnan and Justice S.V. Bhat was hearing writ petitions in the matter filed by the Leader of Opposition in AP assembly, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, former Lok Sabha MP YV Subba Reddy and YSR Congress party MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy.

Counsel for the Leader of Opposition in AP assembly, and senior advocate, D. Prakash Reddy submitted to the court that the murderous attack on the YSRCP chief came under the purview of the NIA Act. He pointed out that the state government had so far not forwarded its probe report to the Centre and added that it should do so after getting them from the police authorities.

The Advocate General of AP, D. Srinivas argued that the murder attempt on the AP Leader of Opposition did not come under Section 3 of the Civil Aviation Security Act.

Arguing for the Centre, Assistant Solicitor-General, K. Lakshman submitted to the court that the state government had to submit its report to the Centre as per provisions of the NIA Act, adding the Home department had not received any such report from the AP government.

The Bench stated that the Centre could take a decision based on the report submitted by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
