Who could ever imagine that Steven Spielberg was rejected a job as a director

He is probably the best known movie directors in Hollywood and certainly one of the most influential film personalities in the history of film. With innumerable big-grossing, critically acclaimed credits to his name, as producer, director and writer, Steve Spielberg would not be expected to have encountered rejection, especially at a professional level.

Spielberg however disputes this. In a recent radio interview, Spielberg made startling revelations that he had been rejected as a director, not once but twice! Spielberg said that the makers of the James Bond franchise didn’t think he was the right man to direct a Bond movie.

Spielberg went on to reveal that after the unforgettable movie ‘Jaws’ became a huge hit in 1976, he called up Albert ‘Cubby’ Broccoli and offered him his services to direct a Bond movie. However Cubby felt that Spielberg was not the right man for the job.

Nevertheless fortune smiled on him once more as his 1977 science fiction movie ‘Close Encounters of the third kind’ also became a huge hit. Encouraged by this Spielberg approached Broccoli once again to try and get onto a Bond film; he was however turned down once again.

The reason for being rejected this time was that the James Bond producers could not afford the now super successful Spielberg. Seems like sometimes, being rejected for a job does have a good ring to it, especially when you’re too good to be hired!
