BENGALURU: Ten years, 100 names and as many lovers. This 28-year-old has been doing a Casanova act to win hearts of several women, not for love but to make a quick buck.

Ever since he turned 18, Sadat Mushtaq Khan started impersonating and cheating women of their money and other valuables after promising to marry them and sexually exploiting most of them. Ten years since, he cheated nearly 100 women from across the state, assuming an alias every time. But his luck ran out last week when he was arrested after a Bengaluru woman cheated by him approached police.

Depending on the woman's profile, Sadat Khan would pose himself either as techie, businessman, CEO of a multinational company, son of a rich industrialist or a government employee awaiting civil service exam results, police said. "After meeting the woman in person, he would promise to marry her, slowly win her confidence by spending a lot on her. Later, citing an emergency, he would take money or gold from her and vanish," they added.

Most of Sadat's victims never approached police, enabling him to get away. But his latest victim, a woman residing at Bagalur near Yelahanka, north-east Bengaluru, filed a complaint of rape against Sadat, a resident of Mirza Mohalla Road, with Yelahanka police.

"If we go by his statement, at least 75-100 women have fallen prey to him. We are requesting the public to file complaints if they are any victims," north-east DCP P S Harsha said.

According to police, Sadat Khan would approach victims on matrimonial sites. Every time he would change name, cellphone number as well as handset, residential address and other details.

"The money he took from the last girl would be investment in his next victim. He was smart enough to avoid places like hotels, resorts and shopping malls where he had taken his previous victims," police added.
