Paris: A tennis player has been banned from the French Open tournament for groping a woman reporter and repeatedly kissing her on a live television interview.

Maly Thomas, Eurosport sports journalist, went to interview Maxime Hamou(21) after his first round defeat on Monday. During the interview Hamou was seen pulling the reporter towards him, putting his arm around her and then forcibly kissing her despite she tries to duck away. This has garnered outrage over social media, making the French Tennis Federation to order an investigation into this.

"The management of the tournament has decided to revoke Maxime Hamou's accreditation following his reprehensible behavior with a journalist," the federation issued a statement.

The reporter called his actions as "frankly unpleasant", adding, "If I hadn't been live on air, I would have punched him."

After drawing the backlash, Hamou, has issued apology on his Facebook page. The world number 287 wrote, "I offer my deep apologies to Maly Thomas if she feels hurt or shocked by my attitude during her interview." "I have just spent a magnificent week here at Roland Garros... and I expressed my beautiful emotions as a tennis player crudely towards Maly, who I know and respect sincerely," he posted.
