1 Rupee Notes To Come Back In New Avatar Soon

Mumbai: The Reserve Bank of India will soon roll out new one rupee note with new features. The new notes with pink-green on obverse and reverse in combination with other colors will be soon put into circulation, the central bank said in a statement on Tuesday. The RBI further stated that the existing currency notes will be continued as a legal tender.

It may be recalled that the government pulled out one rupee notes in 1994 as it was expensive to produce notes comparing to coins. This is third new currency to be introduced by the government after issuing Rs2,000 and Rs500 last year.

The new one rupee notes will be 9.7 by 8.3 cm in dimension and will bear 'Bharat Sarkar’ on its masthead, and ‘Government of India’ printed below that, while other currencies have 'Bharatiya Reserve Bank' and 'Reserve Bank of India' printed on them

Apart from this, the note will have the Ashoka Pillar, a hidden number ‘1’ and the hidden Hindi word ‘Bharath’. The surrounding design of the note consists of a picture of ‘Sagar Samrat’, the oil exploration platform in Maharashtra. The new note will have biligual signatures of - Rajiv Mehrishi, the Finance Secretary at the time, and current Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das. The printing of new one rupee note will cost 94 paise, when compared to the one rupee coin, which will cost 70 paise.
