IICT Hyderabad Set To Become COVID-19 Testing Laboratory

HYDERABAD: Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad is all set to become another lab that conducts COVID-19 tests in Telangana.
It is reported that personnel from IICT are undergoing training at Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) to conduct tests. CCMB in Hyderabad has been conducting COVID-19 tests from April. Apart from testing, it has also been training personnel from various institutions in testing for COVID-19.
Last week, the University Of Hyderabad (UOH) was approved as a testing laboratory by the Department of Biotechnology. The cluster in Hyderabad consists of CCMB, IICT, UoH, The centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) and National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB). CCMB is the coordinating institute for the cluster.
Now, In Telangana, nine existing facilities are conducting COVID-19 tests. It is said that with the addition of IICT to the list of COVID-19 testing institutes there will be an increase number of tests conducted per day in the state. As of now, with the existing labs Telangana has the capacity to conduct 1,560 tests a day.
