Nizamabad Overview: DS, A Thorn In TRS Flesh?

D Srinivas - Sakshi Post

Nizamabad: The political situation in the Nizamabad Urban constituency is taking an interesting turn as days go by. Followers of TRS Rajya Sabha member D. Srinivas are pushing for his candidature from the Congress party and at the same time, TRS Corporator Kaparthi Sujatha has gone ahead and met the TPCC Election Committee requesting them to give the Congress ticket to her. She has also put in a word with the TPCC Chief Uttam Kumar Reddy to push her name for nomination.

This has sent political circles into a tizzy because she is a staunch follower of D Srinivas and had switched from the Congress to the TRS along with him. To D. Srinivas's followers, her seeking a Congress ticket was something completely unexpected.

D Srinivas who is facing serious allegations of anti-party activities may be expelled from the TRS party any time soon. He has in fact, thrown a challenge to the party leadership by asking to be suspended from the party if the leadership doesn’t like him to continue or to direct those who made charges on him to withdraw them by tendering an apology. After these allegations, he has distanced himself from the TRS party and rumours are rife that he may be joining the Congress Party again. Another interesting fact is that apart from Kaparthi Sujatha, 6 more candidates are in the fray for the Nizamabad Urban seat. Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud, Taherbin Handan, Narala Ratnakar, Kesa Venu, Premalatha Aggarwal, Narala Kalyan among others, are eyeing the seat from the Congress Party.

D Srinivas is under pressure from his followers who want him to quit the TRS and join the Congress party. He has a strong hold over the minority community in Nizamabad as well as his own community and his followers want him to cash in on this. His supporters want him to contest the elections which they feel he will win with a thumping majority. Whether the TPCC is willing to take him back into its fold is something we need to wait and see. Meanwhile, the TRS has named Ganesh Bigala as its candidate for the Nizamabad Urban Constituency, so it could be a war between him and D. Srinivas, based on whether D. Srinivas would be expelled from the TRS. The big question is--would the Congress then accept him?
